If We Had to Obey Davis Bacon
If we had to obey Davis Bacon –
If we were forced to pay prevailing rates –
We'd have a line from New Orleans to Macon
Of greedy workers from the local states.
For they would want jobs with paid vacation
With a guarantee of work for a year
Plus the chance to become the salvation
Where
Katrina's damage was severe.
Yet if we hire them there's no escape –
For if – with set law – we had to comply –
The bureaucratic nonsense and red tape
Would shrink our no-bid contract's 'higher pie'.
No, we to our shareholders must be true –
Besides
illegal immigrants will do.
