pomes of buddy don: the nanny state

The market God is where we place our trust
Since that’s a force that never can be wrong —
Though competition leaves some in the dust
Their loss helps compensate the lucky strong!

And if some poor folks have to starve or die
We should not intervene since that’s the price
We pay to prove it never goes awry —
And having billionaires is very nice!

For all are free to use their native luck
To choose their wealthy parents upon birth —
And if a person hasn’t got the pluck
To choose well, then he is of little worth.

No Nanny State! Don’t coddle the ill-fated!
What Jesus would do is simply outdated!

pomes of buddy don: Not A Class War

Not A Class War

It's not a class war, can't you see?
It's more of a class rout.
The rich are winning handily
The rest have been left out.

pomes of buddy don: If We Had to Obey Davis Bacon

If We Had to Obey Davis Bacon

If we had to obey Davis Bacon –
If we were forced to pay prevailing rates –
We'd have a line from New Orleans to Macon
Of greedy workers from the local states.

For they would want jobs with paid vacation
With a guarantee of work for a year
Plus the chance to become the salvation
Where Katrina's damage was severe.

Yet if we hire them there's no escape –
For if – with set law – we had to comply –
The bureaucratic nonsense and red tape
Would shrink our no-bid contract's 'higher pie'.

No, we to our shareholders must be true –
Besides illegal immigrants will do.

pomes of buddy don: This Is No Class War

This Is No Class War

To tax investment income just creates
A major disincentive to invest
This honorable principle translates
To rich folks getting richer as they rest!

It's taxing death to tax inheritance
Or so the living heirs loudly complain –
They so deserve their wealth since birthright's chance
Decreed they be bequeathed effortless gain!

In fact the only thing we ought to tax
Is money earned by elbow grease or work –
We can balance our budget on the backs
Of the lowly lucklessly working jerk!

This is no class war – do not think it is –
They must protect what's theirs – not yours or his!

pomes of buddy don: For Money to Work

For Money to Work

For money to work its amount must be
Maintained at a rather constant supply.
For if you expand the whole quantity
Each dollar's worth starts to wither and die.

That means just one billionaire to create
Requires one million others decrease
The net worth potential of their estates
By one thousand U.S. dollars apiece.

Rich folks have castles protected by moats,
Communities that their great walls surround.
And though rising tides can lift all the boats
If you have no boat, you'll prob'ly be drowned.

Why do tears fill Jesus' eyes to the brim?
What's done to our poor is done unto Him.

pinions of buddy don: the gang the couldnt add strate

the gang that couldnt add strate

we need to buy a calculator for
the folks in the administration who
seem not to know how to approach the chore
of getting four by adding two plus two

for if they knew how to do basic math
they soon would notice that you can't produce
a deficit reduction of one half
while spending more as taxes are reduced

and while we're at it we should proffer them
a map to help them find reality
their optimism we would not condemn
except that it is based on fantasy

run flood relief by one who sprang the leak?
so, paddle-less, they're up a famous creek!

[note frum buddy don: my pallgies fer not ritin much the past few days. i knew i wood be wurkin verr long hours windsdy thru fridy -- 15 n 16 hour days -- so i gut a few pitchers reddy to have sumthin to post but dint have no time to rite. i hope i never half to wurk so hard or long agin!]

pomes of buddy don: the truth shall set them free

the truth shall set them free

now that the levees of spin have been breached
and even the faithful cannot be reached
how will the partisans ever conceal
the flood of cruel truth, its stench all too real?

and how as the waters are pumped and drained
is so much asserted but nothing explained?
and where is the wedge, abortion or gay,
to distract the base till this fades away?

and who will persuade the heads on tv
to quit doing stories about what they see?
to play both sides now, their favorite game
where whoever's guilty, they aren't to blame!

yes, how will they win in two thousand six
with so little left in their bag of tricks?
when all see their spin is superficial
and truth no lamb, no lamb sacrificial!

pomes of buddy don: Sonnet Written on Hearing Sean Hannity is Outraged

Sonnet Written on Hearing Sean Hannity is Outraged by the Looting of a Walmart in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina

We wanted to leave on news of the storm
that was bearing down on our home town.
We knew that our only hope to survive
lay in finding us some higher ground.

But having no car, no bus and no train
and knowing of nowhere to go,
we stayed where we were and prayed to be spared
when we heard those cruel winds start to blow.

Now there's no water no shelter no food
and all that we owned is lost in the flood.
Yet we're being blamed for looting the walmart
for food that we eat as we crouch in the mud.

What have we learned from our loss and our shame?
That though we are victims, we still are to blame.
