pomes of buddy don: What Are These Fools Thinking?!?

What Are These Fools Thinking?!?
What are these fools thinking, when they attack,
The high-minded lawyers who came to assist
Our leaders who wanted to invade Iraq
Yet couldn’t procure proof from nabbed terrorists?

We’d learned in Korea lessons that SERE’d
As torture induced downed airmen to confess
To crimes for which their homeland could be smeared
,
For one will say anything under duress.

Though in those old days 'to waterboard'
Was widely called torture, even by us,
Its use as a tool *now* can’t be ignored!!!
Time bombs could be ticking!!! What’s all the fuss?!?

We’ve all heard it said, 'We don't torture' it’s true —
But we get 'good intell' if we ever do!

pomes of buddy don: Reserved for Use

Reserved for Use

How can it be that we are so confused
As not to know what’s torture or what’s not?
The very methods Torquemada used
Repulsed us – can it be that we forgot?

The process then was called the Water Cure
A staple of the Spanish Inquisition
That it was torture we are pretty sure
Since history has stated its position.

The Chinese Water Torture was a name–
Whoever coined it knew nothing of spin! –
That long was used in passing out the blame
For actions that we recognized as sin.

Now it’s not an act we would condemn
As long it’s reserved for use on “them.”

pomes of buddy don: A Lesson Sublime

A Lesson Sublime

There once was a young middle eastern man –
Born in the humblest of situations –
Where violence raged 'neath a dictator's hand –
Where first born sons had no expectations.

The boy grew up to be a fine speaker –
He walked the land preaching higher law –
For truth, only truth, was he a seeker –
And all who listened heard him in awe.

The puppet authorities were not amused,
Fearing the adoring crowds he could draw –
They had him arrested, had him abused –
Tortured him till he was bloody and raw.

He saw no lawyer, was given no proof
Though he stood accused of capital crimes –
The local authorities remained aloof
As a fearful mob betrayed him three times.

And that for us was a lesson sublime –
As he was crucified on a great hill –
A suspect convicted of nary a crime –
With torture aren't we crucifying him still?
