Sink or Swim

Welfare as we know it was remodeled –
There's no free lunch in our land of the free!
Welfare recipients will not be coddled
No matter how hungry or poor they be.

We put them on a timeline so they'd know
There is no Santa Clause, no welfare elves –
We labored to explain the quid pro quo
They must decide to sink or swim themselves

We showed them tough love with no regrets
Insisted working was a fact of life.
So why are the Iraqis pampered pets?
Should they not have to handle their own strife?

It's time to get tough with them, let them know –
They'll have to sink or swim, for we must go!
